For this Episode of Rottler Featured Series we’re in Palm City, Florida to see Bill Dicondina, Owner of Xtreme Cylinder Heads.

Xtreme Cylinder Heads specializes in Porsche cylinder heads: Race heads, Turbo head, exact replicas of OEM heads — all built to the most exacting standards.

Dicondina tells us that his Rottler equipment is critical to his business and is used in everything from raw castings to port work. He’s even had his 69ATC series machines upgraded to double the size of the tool changers and add a 4th axis.

“Instead of 25 hours to port a set of heads, it only takes 4 with the Rottler equipment,” head said. “That frees us to do other work.”

Not surprisingly, while Xtreme made a name for itself on manufacturing and rebuilding Porsche 911 heads, word of the superior quality of their work has spread. Now they’re now also expanding into Toyota Supra, and vintage restoration work for Lamborghini, and Ferrari work as well.

No matter what the job, Dicondina tells us they remain focused perfecting the smallest of details to deliver the best results and experience for their customers.

“Since I opened this shop in 1999, we always strive for absolute perfection,” Dicondina said. “I can’t say enough about Rottler and how they’ve changed our business.”

On this episode of Rottler Featured Series join us at R&L Engines in Dover, New Hampshire.

R&L Engines is a 6,000 square foot state of the art engine rebuilding and machining facility that works on everything from vintage engines to high performance auto and marine motors.

Owner Leo Crossetier started R&L back in 1981 and later invested in his line-up of Rottler equipment because he got too busy and could no longer stand in front of a machine for hours a day. On this Episode of Rottler Featured Series, join us at Heinlein Diesel and Machine in Rogersville, MO where we meet up with owner Tyler Heinlein.

Heinlein’s main focus is working on light duty diesel pickups, doing transmissions, engine repairs and performance upgrades. He started the business back in 2015 as solo operation with a couple of work bays and some basic tools.

These days he’s still a one-man shop, but he’s got a whole team working for him in the form of a trio Rottler machines — and H85 hone, an F69 multi-purpose machining center, and a SG9MTS seat & guide machine.

“I’m not a guy who came from CNC machines, but Rottler makes it easy,” Heinlein said. “I have no problem using the RPath software.”

When it gets down to it, it’s Rottler’s “set it and walk away” automation that’s the game changer. “The H85 hone paid for itself right away. That was real eye opener,” he said. “I’m doing the work of a team while still being one person.”

For this episode of the Rottler Featured Series we’re in Kathleen, Georgia to see Brian Anderson owner of AnderFab Machine.

AnderFab is a general purpose and performance machine shop taking on jobs from single cylinder engines all the way up to 959 Pro nitrous motors. One of the secrets to the variety of work this small business handles is its impressive line-up of Rottler equipment.

They put their first machine, a F69 multipurpose machining center, in the shop back in 2021. Since then, they’ve added a H85A vertical hone, the EM69HP engine machining center, a VR12 refacer, and a SG9MTS valve seat and guide machine.

Anderson told us that his “arsenal” of Rottler equipment allows them to be more productive because they can tackle a whole bunch of jobs all at once. And it’s not just the quality of the work the machines do that he likes. “[Rottler’s] support and follow-through were a huge decision maker,” he said.

We asked Chris Barrier, one of AnderFab’s machinists, which machine he felt was the biggest gamer changer and he answered without hesitation, the H85A hone. Because it’s fully automatic, he can set it up and walk away to work on something else while “the hone does its thing.”

On this episode of Rottler Featured Series we head out to Phoenix, Arizona to see Robert Tanquery and his shop, RNR Custom Engines.

RNR is a custom engine machine shop that rebuilds everything from Cummins diesels to Chevy LS engines, as well as all manners of classics like Pontiacs, AMCs, and even the rare Mercedes gullwing.

Their extensive tooling and machine line-up allows them to take on engine rebuilds that no one else can, which Tanquery says is a blessing and a curse (the good kind).

Talking about his suite of Rottler equipment in his shop – an F69ATC (now the EM69ATC), the H85AX hone, SG9 seat & guide machine, and an S86A surfacer, he admits to being “flabbergasted” at how much business they bring.

Even vintage car collector and racer, Craig Jackson, brings his cars to RNR. That includes the 1967 Mustang that used to be Caroll Shelby’s daily driver, Tanquery told us.

“Having these Rottlers on the floor gave us quadruple the work,” he said. “Once word got out, people were bringing us everything. We couldn’t do it without (Rottler).”

In this episode of Rottler Featured Series, we’re in McCool Junction, Nebraska home of Donrich Machine a full-service machine shop focused on agricultural and industrial diesel and gas engines.

Corey Schlegelmilch, owner of Donrich Machine tells us he bought the business about 20 years ago, starting out as a one-man shop in a 2,000 square foot building with a handful of equipment. Since then, he’s grown Donrich into a thriving business with a team of employees and a new 7,200 square foot facility.

Being located in America’s heartland it’s no surprise that a good portion of their business is servicing the workhorse diesels that keep the water flowing and the crops growing in the farm fields of the Midwest. Donrich services a lot of engines like Cummin ISXs, CAT C15s and Detroit 60s. To get that work done quickly and done right, they’re using the Rottler EM79 engine machining center along with the H85AX automatic hone and an S80 series surfacer.

According to Corey, one of the big advantages using Rottler equipment is the ability to work on a diesel and then switch it up to machine gas V8 with near zero downtime. Plus, with the increased speed and accuracy of Rottler’s CNC technology, he knows it’s going to be spot on with the machining specifications.

We asked one of Corey’s machinists and told us what he appreciates about the Rottler equipment is anyone can learn it. It only takes a few minutes to master and, unlike other machines, you don’t need to stand there and watch it to make sure it’s working. “You hit the button and walk away,” he said. “You’re free to go work on something else.”

Corey summed it up pretty well. “I’ve been using Rottler equipment since I started in this. They always build a good product, they support it, and you know they’re going to be around for a long time,” he said.

He’s right too. Thanks to customers like Donrich Machine, we’re celebrating our 102nd anniversary this year and we’re looking forward to 102 more!

For this episode of Rottler Featured Series, we’re in Springfield, Illinois at Capital City Machine Shop, owned by legendary funny car racer Tim Wilkerson.

Growing up in the 1970’s, Tim loved things fast and loud, and racing became his passion. Not being made of money, he originally started his shop so he could do his own engine work. Eventually though, the hobby became a job and in 1999 he opened Capital City Machine.

These days Capital City is the premier machine shop general automotive, farm & agriculture, marine and performance engine work, drawing business from the entire region between Chicago and St Louis. He’s also still running his nitro funny car team, Tim Wilkerson Racing.

Being a leading engine shop, naturally Capital City Machine is also a great Rottler Manufacturing partner, and has a suite of our equipment helping him work his magic for his customers. Talking to shop manager Jeff Jacobs, we learned that his “team” includes himself and four Rottler machines: an H85AX CNC hone, an SG series seat & guide machine, an EM69 5-axis CNC engine machining center, and an F series multi-purpose CNC machine.

Jacob’s favorite part of his team? Rottler’s “set it and forget it” automation lets him set a job up and walk away. He and his “team” can be doing the work of five guys and he knows they’ll all deliver the precision work Capital City’s customers and Wilkerson’s racing team demand.

For episode 35 of the Rottler Featured Series, we’re in Groton, Connecticut to see Gary Espinoza, owner of the legendary machine shop Larry’s Auto Machine where they offer all levels of engine building, from mild to 1150HP blown pump gas hemi.

Gary got into the business in 1988 and he’s never just wanted to build engines, he wants to build engines that win races. Not surprisingly, is engines have done that over 1,700 times. It doesn’t matter what the race application is either — circle track, drag, boat, you name it — and there’s a vehicle power by a Larry’s Auto Machine-built engine winning it.

One of the interesting things about Gary and crew is that these guys for the most part learned their trade hands-on. None of them had any experience in operating a CNC machine. So, when they got their first Rottler machine (an F68A) and found that it, like them, works in inches and has touch screen controls that even a novice can use, they knew they’d made a great choice.

These days the shop floor at Larry’s looks a lot like a Rottler show floor. In addition to the F68 multi-purpose CNC (now upgraded to F69 capabilities), they’ve also got an H85A automatic hone, an S85 surfacer, an SG9HP seat & guide machine, and an EM69HP engine machining center for those seriously high horsepower applications.

Gary’s guys will tell you that their suite of Rottler machines give them the kind of power and productivity you can’t get anywhere else. Machinist Anthony Franco told us there are days where he’s “honing, decking, porting, boring, and doing a valve job all at the same time” thanks to Rottler’s “set it and let it run” automation.

Ultimately, what sets an engine built by Larry’s Auto Machine apart from others is their ability to find engineering advantages in small places and be able to leverage them into big performance gains. “In truth,” Garys says “this business would not be as successful as it is without Rottler.”
